This is really exciting! I am a baking fanatic and found out about Planet Cake recently. Now I find myself on the internet EVERYDAY checking out on the availability of the courses and most ‘economical’ way to organise the courses to take up as our household has no income at the moment. Thus chancing upon this competition is like finding treasure in the deep sea! I really hope with this $500 that I win, I can be able to start my basic intensive course in brisbane next feb!

  2. How exciting! I am a cake decorating beginner and was very excited to find this!

I find the tutorials and the supplier list very helpful, as well as everything else on this site! I would love to see more tutorials though!

If I were to win the competition I would register for the basics 101 and 102!!

Thank you for a great competition :)

Oh how I want to “Planet Cake”
The cakes I make and bake are great….
But to learn from these awesome guys
the tricks to help my business fly!!!!
I love the colours, the cream and butter
It sets my heart all a-flutter
My dream it would be, someday
To Planet Cake I fly away!
Please give me a chance to be great
I want to bake, and bake and bake
To decorate, craft and perfect the skills
And not have to pay a bill!

Your website is the coolest I have seen, I love the “search” the hints and tips, the topsy turvey is a dream!
I would love to have more time to screen!
The only thing I think it needs, if anything, is a “city by city” directory – very frustrating to try and fnd something in Melbourne, when all I get is Sydney shops!

Hi – Thanks for running this competition.

I really love your tutorials and the info you provide on products. Really helps to narrow my search on which products are the best. Your information is very thorough.

I would love to see more tutorials on baking. And more competitions !

If I won, I would put the money towards a Madhatter course.

    Thanks !

Hi! I just found your blog through the Planet Cake blog!

I stumbled across the Planet Cake book a couple of months ago and have been addicted to cake decorating ever since. I went to Sydney recently and completed Basics 101 and loved it!

As a new mum I thought this would be a great hobby and that my children could have the most awesome cakes in town. Meanwhile, I have always had this little problem of not being able to say no. After a couple of friends saw and tasted my Planet Cake inspired creations, my diary began filling up with “orders” (I.E. love jobs). I’ve lost count of the number of cakes/cupcakes I’ve made for friends and family so far, but to give you an idea, in the first half of next year I will be making:
5 first birthday cakes (including my son’s)
    My mother’s 50th birthday cake
My friend’s mother in law’s 60th birthday cake
    My sister’s wedding cake
    My cousin’s wedding cake
My good friend’s wedding cake; and
    My niece’s christening cake

All of these will be labours of love, completed in the wee hours of the evening when my husband and son are fast asleep. But that’s okay, as I LOVE IT!

I just had the realisation recently that I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew in terms of skill level, so had been trying to work out how to complete Basics 102 and 103 early next year.

So for many reasons, I am very glad to have found your blog! I will be visiting here frequently as it seems to be a comprehesive resource with just about everything you need for cake decorating in this country! I live in North Queensland and there isn’t much available locally so I am always trolling the net to find supplies and ideas. This site has great stuff!

I particularly like your favourite blogs section and suppliers list. I look forward to reading through the articles and forums soon.

I would love to see more pictures – I am always looking for inspiration for my next creation.

PLEASE CHOOSE ME! If I won I’d use the voucher towards Basics 102 and 103. Then I would definitely be able to do them early next year!!!!

You find so many American Blogs dedicated to cake decorating, it is wonderful to finally find one that is Australian based and so comprehensive! I love how this is a one-stop shop for all things cake and ties all resources together so well, so you need look no further. The most useful information I’ve found is in the suppliers section as shopping for equipment and new products is a never ending odyssey in the world of cake decorating. There is always something you find yourself looking for and to have a list of suppliers all in one area to browse through is great. I also love looking at the Flikr links to see what wonderful creations others are coming up with and again its great that its Australian based, showcasing our own unique style. One other thing on the blog I think would be useful would be a “Tips and Tricks” section. A place where you can go for all those little “aaaahh” moments…. like using xray film to smooth fondant…(a recently divulged and much appreciated PC tip)… I think a section like this would tie in very well with the existing tutorial section. As I am working my way through the Basics series, the next course on my radar is Basics 104… a voucher towards this course would be a very much appreciated and valued contribution to my training fund as I develop my skills and build up my business. Afterall, to be the best, you must learn from the best!!

I have to admit that I have only just today ‘discovered’ this blog, and I have to say I already LOVE it. It’s so refreshing to have a dedicated Australian cake site. The lists of suppliers and blogs are awesome – so much to buy and read, so little time (money!!) haha.
I’ve noticed you’ve got info about the Royal Sydney Show and I’m wondering if you could include info on other ’shows’. I’m in Canberra and am finding it difficult to get info on the Canberra Show and entering a cake there. So perhaps a section on shows in general would be good.
Oh, and also, I can’t wait to check out your tutorials section.
If I won the prize I would try to get to an intermediate Planet Cake course as I recently did the Basics 102 and haven’t stopped smiling since – LOVED IT!!! (But it took a lot of saving up to afford it)
I’m really looking forward to exploring more of your fab blog – my best find this week!!

  8. Lauren Thiele lthiele says:

Hey Nicole – the most useful piece of info so far has been how generously you share links for supplies etc. I would like to see a section about current trends in Australian cake design, flavours etc.

If I win I would like to start at the beginning with Basics 101 or 102!
    Happy caking!

The best thing with this blog for me it is wonderful to find out the latest news and events with cake decorating around the country. i dare say there is one many blog that has covers cake deco info as comprehensive locally.

i would love to see a section dedicated to products review as this will enable readers to compare the pro and cons of tools and help readers to make a more informed decision when buying tools for cake decorating.

i totally dream about doing the basics 101 n 102.class at planet cake but i could hardly afford it at the moment.

    May the best entry wins!

My favourite thing are the reviews – I really like that you put up lots of pictures (e.g. the inside of the books) and I would like to see more (although it is difficult to review products without spending a lot of money buying them!)

I would love to see some guest bloggers – maybe other members of your guild?

frankly, only found you tonight, but based on the flick through i had BEFORE i saw this post, i’m looking forward to a good number of hours of reading!! so far, i’m loving the articles. explaining what and why and how .. learning is more than just memorising instructions, its the understanding ..

as for what i’d love to see .. i’d love to see a bit of an extension across the sea! kiwi suppliers .. maybe including the kiwi versions of products .. totally selfish, i know, but over here .. well .. we’re sadly lacking in decent resources!!

as for the class .. ohhhhh .. the bride and groom figurine .. or the mad hatter to learn that wicked sharp corner .. or .. or .. too many to pick from! :D
