Yes Rhonda, it is open to international cake friends too, I’ll amend the post to show that, I knew I forgot something!
I so admire the amazing cakes PC creates. I’ll not likely ever take a class, since I’m from the USA, so a PC book would surely be the next best thing! I want to create the same masterpieces those who take the classes have been able to produce.
Oh thanks Nicole! I know I will never be able to afford a trip to Australia, so this book will be the next best thing!! Planet Cake is so awesome and I love Australian cake decorating!
Your site closed just after I joined ! I SO admire the Aussie style of decorating , and am mystified by the evasive “mud cake”..will try one soon.I am in Prevost,,Quebec,Canada….so it’s a long way to go.The book would an AMAZING aid to have!
Could you repost(at least in part) the solution for the cracks in the mudcakes..I’m about to plunge into my first one…believe I read that I need to put parchment on top while baking…also the Ferro Rocher recipe…if I understand it correctly…I’ll get a 20cm/8inch round about 2 1/2 inches high?
thanks…and I’m so glad you’re still here!

@jane, oven thermometer is key, most people’s ovens are out by several degrees. Try dropping the temperature as cracking is usually due to to hot an oven, try this post http://www.cakesandmore.org/blog/2009/01/how-to-get-cakes-to-bake-evenly-particularly-larger-ones/ for the home-made bake even strips which also help.
The recipe states doubling it for a 24cm will give you a 2 1/2 inch high cake. Cheers.

@Nicole, I baked it before I heard from you,in a 8×3 fat
daddios pan…I did lower the temperature because I
have the oven-from-hell…I put a piece of oil loosely over
the top..it is cold, still in the pan ..no cracks on the top…
I just took it out of the pan…quite hard to get it out…the
bottom is all cracked..surface..even the sides, and theres a
1 1/2 inch wide crater goingup into the cake about 1/8th inch
So I’ve flipped it upside down…my testers came out clean
It’s about 1 3/4 inches high…should I leave it upside down?
The top is hard..the bottom needs to dry a bit…Any advice..
Right side up it looks ok…might it sink? Thank you!!!

original supposed to end up…also…I think I’m posting this in the wrong place…Sorry!
Where should I be asking this? Thanks again for your patience!

@jane, Can you comment here on the mud cake post http://www.cakesandmore.org/blog/2008/09/chocolate-mud-cake-with-ferrero-rocher-filling/ and I’ll answer your additional questions there. Cheers
Hi i would love to have the Planet Cake Book as i am basically from Pakistan> Right now i am in UK as my husband is doing his Phd from here and we will be goin back at the mid oct 2009. I will be starting my cake business over here and would love to have this book so i can get as much help from the books with creative ideas as i can and your website is also great as it has also helped me in learning techniques for making cakes take care and best of luck
Hi Nicole! As a newbie to c ake decorating the planet cake book would be a great help (I’m not the most creative person!) I too doubt I’ll get down to Sydney for the planet cake course as I just brought my first house so can’t really afford anything these days lol. I’m also without my license at the moment so I’ll be stuck at home for many a weekends with nothing to do but bake!!! Fingers crossed!!! x
Oh I would absolutely love to add this book to my collection. I am new to cake decorating and I am like a sponge right now. I don’t have access to any classes in this area, other than the Wilton classes (which I have taken) so it’s up to the books now. I want to learn all sorts of techniques, this would give me another learning aid. I would love for you to pick my name in the draw, it would be a fantastic start to this year in decorating :-)
Pick me! Pick me! I need to learn all the basics being a total newbie to the creative art of cake decorating. My brain is on a “want to know it all now” whereas my hands are still learning how to cover a cake. The PC book would be the perfect tool to help my hands catch up to my brain!!
I apologise for my poor attempt at poetry but I really want this book!
Planet Cake, Planet Cake,
Cakes like yours, I dream to make!
Your workshops I would love to take,
And learn how to make great cakes.
Alas, this is not to be,
As I cannot afford the fee.
The next best thing would be to look,
Through the pages of your new cookbook!
(I had another verse but ran out of words, hehe)
I too am located in the USA, so, a class at Planet Cake is unlikely for me also. A Planet Cake book would help to bring the Australian flavors and styles to the US. I have used the Mud Cake recipe from your forum and it is a HUGE hit with those here. And to be able to recreate even a smidge of the designs from Planet Cake would be an amazing opportunity!
In the past i have tryed to decorate my childrens cakes and haven’t been very good at it i whatched the morning show this morning and it has given me the go go to make cakes and little cup cakes for my children and the wedding cakes look beatuiful since i am getting married in 2 maybe 3 years time it would give me a chance to make my own cake so i would love to win the planet cake book
Hi Nicole, who is still good for this competition, and will not be a recipe but with a comment. I feel great, the comment is posted in this post?
Thanks
(Nicole, que bueno que sigue esta competencia, ya no sera con una receta sino con un comentario. Me parece genial, el comentario va colocado en este mismo post?
Gracias)
Is it going to be me? Unlikely! I’ve always had to pay for anything, good and bad. I am just a home decorator, nothing fancy, but though senior in age (58) I am still keen of learning and this book would be a sparkling star in my book collection. I highly admire Aussie way of cake decorating and the taste of yr cakes, especially mud cakes is just to my liking. In this part of the world (Croatia) we do not care for “bready” cakes ( bread like- a new word?, my humble addition to English dictionary!), we like them moist and light, and can not stand greasy buttercream.Ganache is a law! I was a regular visitor of yr “late and burried” C&M forum, and learned a lot. Whatever the reason was for closing the forum, I am deeply sorry. I had a good time there. Thank you all.
Winner or not, this PC book is a must, so please let me know how to buy it. Love you people, yu are the best! Sonja
I’ve just started experimenting with decorating and could use some inspiration and instruction. Thanks for the chance to win!
I never had the patience to create a work of art.
But when I saw a book like Planet Cake I suddenly had to start!
So with the help of Cakes & More and a little bit of time.
I can create amazing cakes that I think look devine!

My husband and I are opening up a cafe in Tasmania soon. Would love to sell some beautifully decorated cakes like those ones from Planet Cake. This book will be really handy as reference and inspiration.
My friend and I just started decorating cakes and we both just jumped right in . And now it looks like we have an order for a sweet 16 party and a wedding! Using your cakes as inspiration would make the experiences unforgettable for them and for us! Thank you!
Hello I’m MARYHEART, 27 years old. I never asked something on my birthday last March 07, 2009 but I would like to take this great opportunity as a candidate to be the owner of this genuine book, soon to be my own “Planet Cake Book”. Thank you and more power!
I’ve started to make novelty kids cakes as I now have a toddler – my dream to make cakes half as nice as PC. Unfort. i don’t have time to take the classes but I can only imagine that the PC book will teach me tons of great techniques!
I need to win this book,
I need to win it now,
See I want to make great cakes,
but I just do not know how,
Help me with my dream,
of learning how to bake,
Pretty please with sugar and cream,
I want you Planet Cake!
Thankyou!!
I would love to but couldn’t afford a Planet Cake course. I have three little ones at home and number four on the way. This time instead of just baking, with the book, I could sculpt and decorate a welcome cake during early labour. A double labour of love.
Living in country WA,
Planet Cake is so very far away,
Their decorating classes I can’t take,
or the bank I would break,
So their book would be the next best way!
I currently refer to my mother’s old cake decorating books, and while they have allowed me to create some lovely cakes, the Planet Cake book would be great for some fresh, modern techniques.
